Green Solution House from 3XN

August 7, 2012

3XN is a Danish architectural practice and the designer of the Green Solution House, a conference center slated for the island of Bornholm in Denmark. It is a constantly evolving hotel and meeting space that employs principles of cradle to cradle design to not only eliminate waste, but to try to improve its environment.

The entire complex is made of materials that are either 100% recyclable, or biodegradable. And the materials may shift as sustainable product development–such as insulation made of fungus, or solar screens with algae–come to life in GXN’s labs (the research & development side). Energy consumed in the building is generated from solar arrays, rainwater is collected and filtered biologically, and integrated greenhouses provide all the food consumed on site (with waste being composted). In full adherence with cradle to cradle design, the building continues to evolve, as it is easily disassembled and re-constructed, constantly showcasing some of the latest innovations in sustainable design.
