World Water Day

Did you know that an estimated one out of every six people worldwide lack access to clean freshwater to meet basic needs? Today is World Water Day, created by the United Nations in 1993 to draw global attention to our use of the natural resource. In honor of World Water Day, Joseph Bergen and Nickie Huang created this interactive infographic to help each of us understand our water footprint based on where and how we live. Check it out, it’s pretty interesting. There are also some other good water graphics on this visualizing website.

The Atlantic has also posted a slideshow of images about our use of freshwater around the world. Here’s the full slideshow with a few that struck me below:
