Whirlpool Leads the Way to Smart Appliances
Whirlpool Corporation is currently showcasing some of its top innovative appliances at the 2010 International Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. They have vowed to produce 1 million smart grid compatible clothes dryers by the end of 2011, as part of a larger goal to make all electronically controlled appliances compatible with a smart grid system by 2015.
The dryer, which looks similar to other luxury appliances on the market, will be able to react to signals from the electrical grid, reducing consumption when necessary. They will benefit the environment and save the average consumer $20 – $40 a year…and who wouldn’t want that? These types of ‘smart’ appliances will help shift peak energy use, enable overall energy savings and allow for the growth of alternative energy sources.
