Deforestation: Culprit in Climate Change

In thinking about the proceedings at COP15, I thought about some of the biggest sources of CO2 emissions and wanted to share this poignant slideshow from the NY Times pointing to one of the biggest culprits: deforestation. In Brazil alone, deforestation accounts for 70% of carbon dioxide emissions.

As forests are felled for agriculture (soy beans and corn) and grazing cattle, we again need to look at our meat consumption, particularly in the U.S. One of my favorite ideas is from Michael Pollan; he suggests instating Meatless Mondays to introduce more vegetarian fare to the dinner table.
